Our Keflavik airport location is a Booking.com Traveller Review Award winner!
Keflavik International Airport is Iceland's largest and busiest airport, situated approximately 50 kilometers southwest of Reykjavik, the capital city. It serves as the primary gateway for international travelers visiting Iceland. Originally built by the United States military during World War II, the airport has evolved into a modern facility with extensive international connections.
The airport features a single terminal building with various amenities for passengers, including shops, restaurants, lounges, and duty-free stores. It serves as a hub for Icelandair, the country's flag carrier, as well as for other international airlines offering flights to and from Europe, North America, and other destinations worldwide.
Due to Iceland's strategic location between Europe and North America, Keflavik International Airport plays a crucial role in facilitating transatlantic air travel, making it a popular layover point for travelers en route between these continents.
In recent years, the airport has experienced significant growth in passenger traffic, driven by Iceland's booming tourism industry and its emergence as a popular travel destination for adventurers, nature enthusiasts, and those seeking unique experiences such as the Northern Lights.
When you are off the roundabout into the airport area keep right and follow the car rental return signs toward the Europcar return center. It is located only 300m (900ft) from the airport departure area. Remember to remove all your valuables before returning your car. Check all compartments and under seats. Europcar is not responsible for the loss of any items. Please ensure you refuel the rental car before returning it to avoid incurring refueling charges.

Ultimately, while it's possible to travel in Iceland with a regular car, an SUV can provide added versatility and safety, especially if you plan to explore off-the-beaten-path areas or visit during the winter months. However, it's essential to consider your specific travel plans and comfort level when making your vehicle choice.
