Here you can find an overview of the main additional fees that may apply to short-term and long-term rentals with Höldur. Fees may vary depending on the type of rental, pick-up and return location, kilometres driven, the condition of the vehicle upon return, and any additional services selected.

Additional Driver
If more than one person will be driving the vehicle, each additional driver must be registered on the rental agreement.
Price: ISK 4,350 per rental

Airport Fee – Keflavík International Airport

An airport fee applies to rentals starting or ending at Keflavík International Airport. Only one airport fee is charged per rental, including when the vehicle is both picked up and returned at Keflavík Airport.
Price: ISK 5,100 per rental

Airport Fee – Domestic Airports
An airport fee applies to rentals starting or ending at domestic airports where Isavia parking fees have been introduced.
Price: ISK 2,100 per rental

After-Hours Pick-Up

An additional fee applies when a vehicle is picked up outside regular opening hours.
Price: ISK 22,500 per pick-up

One-Way Fee
A one-way fee* applies when a vehicle is picked up at one rental location and returned to another.
Price: ISK 30,000 per rental
* The fee does not apply when a vehicle is picked up at Keflavík International Airport and returned in Reykjavík, or vice versa.

Child Seat

A child seat can be added to your booking. Different sizes are available depending on the child's age and weight.
Price: ISK 900 per day

Young Driver Fee

An additional young driver fee may apply depending on the driver's age and vehicle category.
Price: ISK 1,800 per day

Workshop Labour

Price: ISK 15,500 per hour

Commercial Passenger Transport Licence – Short-Term Rental

Price: ISK 4,000 per day

Tow Bar

Price: ISK 2,000 per day

Goverment Road Tax

Under the new system that took effect on 1 January 2026, a kilometre-based road charge is paid for road use, replacing fuel-related petrol and diesel taxes.

The government kilometre tax is ISK 6.95 per kilometre. Höldur's administration fee is ISK 1.86 per kilometre.

• Government road tax: ISK 6.95 per kilometre
• Höldur administration and collection fee: ISK 1.86 per kilometre, incl. VAT
• Total: ISK 8.81 per kilometre

The charge is collected at the end of the rental and is based on the total number of kilometres driven during the rental period.

Fees When Returning a Vehicle

Refuelling
Vehicles are supplied with a full fuel tank and must be returned with a full tank. If fuel is missing when the vehicle is returned, the renter will be charged for the missing fuel plus a refuelling fee.
Refuelling fee: 25% surcharge on the pump price, up to a maximum of ISK 2,500

Electric Vehicle Charging
Electric vehicles are supplied with at least a 75% battery charge and must be returned with at least the same charge level. If an electric vehicle is returned with less than 75% charge, a fee of ISK 100 per kWh will be charged.

Cleaning Fees

An additional cleaning fee may apply when a vehicle requires special cleaning.

• Passenger cars and SUVs: ISK 20,000
• Motorhomes and campervans: ISK 30,000
• Toilet cleaning for motorhomes and campervans: ISK 18,000
• Smoking-related cleaning: ISK 30,000
• Special cleaning due to pets: ISK 30,000

Smoking, including the use of e-cigarettes, is prohibited in Höldur vehicles.

Pets are permitted at no additional charge. However, the renter is responsible for any damage caused by pets, and a cleaning fee may apply if the vehicle is not returned clean and free of pet hair.

Lost Additional Equipment

If equipment rented with the vehicle is lost during the rental period, the following charges apply:

• Wi-Fi hotspot: ISK 16,000
• GPS navigation device: ISK 52,000
• Child seat, 0–12 months: ISK 45,000
• Child seat, 1–3 years: ISK 35,000
• Child seat, 4–7 years: ISK 22,000
• Booster seat: ISK 12,500

Lost or Damaged Items

Vehicle Key
The replacement cost may range from ISK 50,000 to ISK 150,000, depending on the vehicle manufacturer. Each case is assessed individually.

Licence Plate
Price: ISK 15,000

Electric Vehicle Charging Cable

Price: up to ISK 60,000

If a tyre needs to be replaced, the following prices apply per tyre:

Towing Costs

Towing costs depend on where the vehicle is located.

Public Roads
ISK 350 per km, minimum charge ISK 35,000

Mountain Roads and F-Roads
ISK 450 per km, minimum charge ISK 35,000

Violation of Driving Restrictions

Rental vehicles may not be driven on roads or tracks that do not have an official road number. The same applies to roads that have been closed due to conditions.

Passenger cars and two-wheel-drive vehicles are strictly prohibited on roads marked with an F-number on official maps (highland roads), as well as on Kjalvegur (Road 35) and Kaldidalur (Road 550).

Under the rental terms and conditions, the fee for violating these driving restrictions is equal to the collision damage waiver excess:

Administration Fee for Fines and Other Charges

If Höldur is required to pay a fine on behalf of the renter or provide information to the authorities in connection with a traffic violation, an administration fee will be charged.

Price: ISK 1,100

Parking fees, road tolls, fines and other charges incurred through the use of the vehicle are also the responsibility of the renter.

Long-Term Rental

The following fees apply specifically to long-term rentals.

Failure to Meet Service Requirements

It is important to bring the vehicle in for servicing at the required intervals. If the required service interval is exceeded, the following charges may apply:

 

A fee charged by the inspection centre may apply if the vehicle is not presented for its legally required inspection within the required time.
Price: ISK 20,000

Administration Fee for Fines and Road Tolls
Administration fee relating to speeding fines, parking charges, road tolls and parking fines.
Price: ISK 1,100

Administration Fee for Government Kilometre Charge
Price: ISK 1,922 per month

Courtesy Vehicle While a Long-Term Rental Vehicle Is Being Serviced
The renter will receive an SMS and/or phone call when the long-term rental vehicle is ready following servicing and must collect the vehicle within two days of receiving the notification.

From the third day, the renter will be charged the daily rental rate and insurance cost for the courtesy vehicle in accordance with the current short-term rental price list.

Höldur does not provide a courtesy vehicle for servicing that takes one hour or less.

Fees may vary depending on the type of rental and the services requested. Fines, parking charges, road tolls and other costs incurred through the use of the vehicle may also apply.
